UV Absorbers for Polymers UV 531

Ultraviolet Absorber UV-531 (also known as Light Stabilizer 531, Octabenzone) is a benzophenone-type ultraviolet absorber with the chemical name 2-hydroxy-4-n-octoxybenzophenone (Octabenzone). As one of the best-performing and most widely used varieties in the benzophenone series, this product exhibits strong absorption in the 240-340 nm wavelength range (particularly significant absorption of UV light at 270-330 nm). It effectively protects polymer materials from photo-oxidative degradation by converting harmful ultraviolet energy into harmless thermal energy.

UV-531 is characterized by its light color, non-toxicity, good compatibility, low migration, and ease of processing. It is a mature light stabilization solution for general-purpose plastics such as polyethylene, polypropylene, and polyvinyl chloride, as well as for coatings and rubber applications.

UV ABSORBER 531 is a light stabilizers which can be widely used in polymers and other organic materials. It has a good light transmittance in the visible range, and can be added in packages contacting with food polymers.

High-efficiency UV absorption: Maximum absorption wavelength at approximately 325 nm, with strong absorption of UV light in the 240-340 nm range, effectively shielding against UV damage.

Light color: Almost no absorption of visible light, making it particularly suitable for transparent and light-colored products.

Excellent compatibility: Good compatibility with a variety of polymers such as PE, PP, PVC, PS, PC, and ABS, allowing for easy dispersion and processing.

Low migration: High stability within the substrate, not prone to blooming or exudation.

Low volatility: No significant degradation or volatilization at extrusion temperatures.

Good thermal stability: Stable below 180°C.

Low toxicity: Compliant with food contact material regulatory requirements.

The main application of UV 531 is in combination with a HALS for the light stabilization of low density and linear low density polyethylene as well as ethylene-vinyl acetate co-polymers for agricultural films. It can be used as well as a UV barrier to protect the contents of packages for both industrial and consumer applications. Also, in combination with HALS, UV 531 can be used in high density polyethylene molded articles.
