Optical Brightener HST is a liquid fluorescent whitening agent of the distyryl triazine derivative type, with C.I. number 357 and CAS number 83512-97-4.
The product appears as an amber transparent liquid. It is an anionic whitening agent with a blue-violet fluorescence hue. The product complies with the chemical industry standard HG/T 3971-2018 (replacing the previous version HG/T 3971-2007).

⚠️ Process Tip: Due to the low fiber affinity of HST, it is mainly used for surface sizing and coating processes. It is not suitable for pulp addition (wet end) , as low retention will result in waste.

Surface Sizing
Used together with CMC, PVA, starch, and anionic or weakly cationic synthetic sizing agents. Conventional dosage:
Reference dosage: 0.5% – 2.0% (based on absolutely dry pulp or sizing solution)
Or 0.5 – 20 g/L (sizing solution concentration)
Coating Process
Can be added at any stage of coating preparation; works best when used together with PVA, CMC, or starch. Conventional dosage:
0.1% – 2.0% (based on coating weight)
Or 0.2% – 1.8% (based on coating weight)
⚠️ Note: Due to the low fiber affinity of HST, it is not recommended for pulp addition (wet end) , as low retention and severe loss will result in poor economy.
Textile Industry
Suitable for whitening cotton fibers and viscose fibers; can also be added to discharge printing pastes.
Package & Storage
100kg, 200kg plastic drum or for the special demand. Or IBC drum.
Should be stored in cool, dry and ventilate place, and storage time should not exceed 6 months

💡 Selection Tip: HST is a hexasulfonic acid type whitening agent with low fiber affinity, therefore it is only suitable for surface sizing and coating processes (cannot be used in pulp). Its core advantages are good acid and alkali resistance (pH 2-12) and excellent fastness properties, making it particularly suitable for paper grades that require high whiteness stability.
